Breaking News: U.S. President Obama Speaks to OWYP School about Importance of Global Learning
U.S. President Obama Speaks to an OWYP school in Washington DC, the Bell Multicultural High School, about the importance of global education and 21st century skills.
“One thing I never want to see happen is schools that are just teaching the test because then you’re not learning about the world, you’re not learning about different cultures, you’re not learning about science, you’re not learning about math,” the president said. “All you’re learning about is how to fill out a little bubble on an exam and little tricks that you need to do in order to take a test and that’s not going to make education interesting.” Read the full story from the Washington Post.
One World Youth Project embodies the type of global learning that Obama speaks about, by connecting middle and high classrooms globally and empowering students to teach one another about our changing world.

We are currently working with students from the Bell Multicultural High School in a way that models Obama’s approach to global learning by linking Bell classrooms with high school classrooms in Kosovo and Qatar via a four-unit curriculum that guides students through cultural exchange, global awareness, community mapping, and service-learning.
