One World Youth Project

Scott Shigeoka

Partnership Director

Scott Shigeoka lived in Hawaii until he was 18, and moved to Pullman—a rural town in eastern Washington—to study journalism at Washington State University.

Scott was an assistant hall director for a residence hall which housed primarily international and non-traditional students. He taught an undergraduate psychology class for two years and then became a program coordinator, facilitating training and co-advising seven sections of instructors. Scott has also co-advised three student organizations, served on university advisory boards, and helped manage all-campus programming and safety initiatives.

During 2009, Scott did freelance writing in Europe. In 2010, he volunteered in Ecuador at a nonprofit that cared for elderly men and women diagnosed with Hansen’s disease (Leprosy). In 2011, Scott documented the work of a nonprofit in Guatemala as the recipient of the Robert A. Mott Distinguished Excellence Award. After graduation, he worked with publications at The Philanthropy Roundtable, a DC-based national association of nonprofit leaders, donors and corporate giving officers.

When Scott discovered One World Youth Project, he was excited about the prospect to utilize his higher education and international experience toward a mission he strongly believes in. As Partnership Director, Scott aims to establish global education partnerships around the world. He believes that One World Youth Project must work collaboratively with a variety of institutions–such as the Ministry of Education, peer nonprofits, NGOs and community leaders–in order to create sustainable education programs. His goals are to encourage universities to become anchor institutions that engage with their local communities, and to empower youth to become active changemakers in the world who look at every issue with a critical, global lens.

Scott is a member of the Sandbox Network and is the co-founder of SnowVersity. He also continues to do freelance designing and illustration for The Philanthropy Roundtable, and is an advocate for creativity, diversity and inclusion in schools.
